LG LFX31925SW

Best French-door refrigerator

Pros
  • Huge capacity
  • Loaded with features
  • Sleek design
Cons
  • Uneven freezer performance
  • Durability complaints
  • Unsatisfactory customer service

    Bottom line

The LG LFX31925SW is the biggest refrigerator covered in our refrigerator report -- a whopping 30.7 cubic feet. Despite its size, it's both efficient and quiet, and it gets good scores for temperature control. It's also loaded with features, from a filtered water dispenser to LED lighting and digital controls. However, the freezer doesn't circulate cold air perfectly, and there are a troubling number of reliability complaints for such an expensive appliance.

    Features

High-end features. The LG LFX31925SW refrigerator has loads of space, both in the fridge and in the freezer. Moreover, LG has maximized the usable space with split, adjustable shelves; a wide deli drawer; and an ice maker tucked inside the door to maximize freezer space. In the freezer, there are three separate tiers to keep food organized. In addition, the LG LFX31925SW has all the features you'd expect on such a high-end appliance, including through-the-door ice and water dispensers, water filtration, touchpad controls, LED lighting, a child lock and an open-door alarm.

    Performance

Mixed results. In professional tests, the LG LFX31925SW fridge gets excellent results for temperature control in the refrigerator section. The crispers are good at holding in moisture, too. However, the freezer is consistently warmer on the bottom than on the top, suggesting poor circulation of cold air. We also found several complaints about reliability in user reviews. The ice maker is the biggest weak spot, but users also report compressor problems and broken shelves, and some describe multiple breakdowns in a short time. Users are also unsatisfied with LG's customer service, which they find rude and slow-moving. On the plus side, owners do agree that this fridge is "whisper quiet."

    Ease of use

A few quirks. Keith Barry of Reviewed.com points out a few peculiarities of the LG LFX31925SW refrigerator. For starters, the digital controls are well labeled, but they only scroll in one direction. Also, the ice maker is mounted flush with the fridge door, which looks sleek, but tends to splash water and ice outside the glass if it's not precisely placed. Users complain about the ice maker as well, saying it produces too little ice and tends to jam. On the plus side, reviewers note that the refrigerator's drawers glide easily and it's easy to clean. Users say the filtered water tastes great, and changing the filter is easy.

    Appearance

Space-age styling. The LG LFX31925SW has a futuristic look, with doors slightly curved at the top, hidden hinges and a water dispenser that blends with the exterior color (white, black or stainless steel). Reviewers say the glossy finish tends to show fingerprints -- not just on the stainless fridge, but on the black as well. "I am constantly wiping it down," complains one user at BestBuy.com. The interior of the refrigerator continues the space-age theme, with bright blue LED lighting. Overall, users love the styling of this fridge and consider it worth a little extra work.
