First Alert CO615

First Alert CO615

Best plug-in carbon monoxide detector

Pros
  • Plugs into any standard outlet
  • Can operate on battery backup
  • Extremely loud horn
  • Seven-year limited warranty
Cons
  • CO level is not continuously displayed
  • Flimsy battery cover

    Bottom Line

The First Alert CO615 is an effective and easy-to-install plug-in carbon monoxide detector. It operates on electricity but will run on battery backup during a power outage. It receives a recommendation from one testing organization and earns high marks from individual owners, although many complain about its flimsy battery cover. Those who don't want to buy batteries should pass on this detector, as it won't operate without them.

    Performance

Safe and effective. Professional testers praise the First Alert CO615, citing its ability to detect high and low carbon monoxide levels, and owners agree. Although this unit is a plug-in model, owners say they feel more secure knowing it will run on backup batteries in the event of a power failure. However, the unit is not designed to run on battery power for long. CO levels are displayed when the indicator button is pressed, disappointing some users who would prefer a continual readout.
Owners praise the detector's few false alarms, but add that nuisance alarms can be silenced with any household remote control. The unit also has an incredibly loud horn, set at 85 decibels within 10 feet, and is destined to wake up even the soundest sleeper. Some of the device's negative feedback stems from misunderstandings about the unit's battery backup; the unit will not operate without batteries in place. Furthermore, there is no bypass option for battery backup use, forcing owners to use the function whether they want to or not. When the batteries run low, the incessant chirping is unnerving, writes an Amazon user.

    Ease Of Use

Installation is a breeze. Most owners say the First Alert CO615 is easy to install, test and use. Its manual has been improved over the years and is now easier to read. This detector comes with a 6-foot extension cord, enabling it to be wall-mounted. It should be placed at least 4 inches from the ceiling and in an area where it's not obstructed. One Viewpoints.com reviewer cautions that owners with inquisitive young children should consider installing the unit out of reach to avoid accidental setoffs.
While the digital display screen is easy to read, it does not continuously display CO levels. To retrieve this info, you must push the indicator button. One Amazon reviewer complains this triggers "a cryptic sequence that frankly looks like it's malfunctioning." However, owners do appreciate the ability to monitor a potentially dangerous situation by pressing the Peak CO memory button, which lets them check the highest CO level recorded. The detector will save these readings until the owner clears the memory.

    Durability

Lasts no more than seven years. The biggest flaw of this First Alert model is its flimsy battery compartment door. Several owners complain that after installing the batteries, the door is difficult to close and must be taped shut. But, the installed AA batteries are not depleted as long as the unit has power. Of note, the detector doesn't operate as well with rechargeable batteries; because they have a lower voltage, the unit considers the batteries discharged before they actually are. The first set of AA batteries is included.
The CO615 is equipped with a seven-year limited warranty, but is designed to last between five and seven years. When its sensors have worn away, users will hear the "end of life" beep every minute until the detector is removed, says a company representative. The date stamped on the back of the device is the manufacture date and will give owners an idea of when the detector should be replaced. Garmin nuvi 3597LMTHD

Garmin nuvi 3597LMTHD

Best car GPS

Pros
  • High-def multi-touch screen
  • Clean, easy-to-read maps
  • Voice commands, with conversational speech
  • Superb magnetic mount
  • Loaded with all of Garmin's most advanced features
Cons
  • Glass screen can glare in the sun

    Bottom line

If you want the best portable car GPS system money can buy (and you're willing to pay for it), the Garmin nuvi 3597LMTHD is the hands-down winner. It's simple, elegant and crammed with every feature Garmin has to offer. It might be overkill for some drivers, though. Less expensive Garmin car GPS systems -- from the step-down Garmin nuvi 2597LMT (Est. $220) to the budget-priced Garmin nuvi 42 (Est. $110) -- navigate just as accurately.

    Performance

Best-in-class navigation. In tests, Garmin GPS systems almost always navigate accurately (more accurately than other brands, some say). Still, GPS technology itself isn't perfect. In Jamie Lendino's test for PCMag.com, the Garmin nuvi 3597LMTHD did lose satellite contact in Manhattan's urban canyons, and it occasionally thought he was in an adjacent lane. But in CNET's test, it locks onto satellites instantly and navigates flawlessly despite San Francisco's tunnels and tall buildings. Its maps make it easier to negotiate tricky interchanges with features (like Active Lane Guidance) that you won't find on cheap GPS systems. The "LM" in the name stands for "lifetime map" updates, so you'll always be able to download the most recent maps.

    Features

Loaded with the latest Garmin frills. The nuvi 3597LMTHD is the only GPS system that includes lifetime HD Digital Traffic, Garmin's top-of-the-line traffic feature (you can get it on other Garmins, but it costs extra). Designed for quicker alerts and better coverage, it works well on New York City's major highways in PCMag.com's test, but "it's still not perfect," missing some congestion on secondary roads and city streets. Other features help you pick the best routes -- even complicated ones. For example, trafficTrends calculates routes based on predicted traffic flow. Auto Sort chooses the most direct route to hit multiple stops. Trip Planner lets you select your own order for multiple stops, set departure and arrival times, and more.

    Ease of use

Pricey extras really make life easier. Here's where you really get what you pay for. The Garmin nuvi 3597LMTHD has the best screen of any car GPS navigator, reviews say -- a 5-inch, dual-orientation, multi-touch glass screen so crisp that it reminds testers of Apple's Retina displays (it can glare in the sun, though). Its elegant powered magnetic mount (no fiddling with a clasp or cord), voice commands, conversation-like directions (e.g., "Turn right at Starbucks," rather than just "Turn right on Elm Street") and intuitive search box (type in "movie theaters," and it shows the nearest ones) really make it easier to navigate, testers say.

    Value

So, is it worth a whopping $350? A basic car GPS system costs about $100. If you have a smartphone, you can navigate for free. So, are the Garmin nuvi 3597LMTHD's luxury features worth the luxury price? Yes, experts say -- if you're a road warrior who wants the smoothest navigation experience possible. But if you don't really need all the extras (or the price just isn't in your budget), you can certainly get an equally accurate GPS navigator for less. Also for Direct Access to Brand Name Products&Services like this Visit our Website at http://ebuys-onlineproducts-services.weebly.com

TDK Life on Record Wireless Weatherproof Speaker A33

TDK Life on Record Wireless Weatherproof Speaker A33

Best outdoor wireless speaker

Pros
  • Good sound
  • Rugged design
  • Easy to transport
  • Speakerphone function
Cons
  • So-so battery life
  • Some problems with streaming

    Bottom line

The TDK Life on Record Wireless Weatherproof Speaker A33 is a portable Bluetooth speaker with a rugged design. It can't match the sound performance of top-rated Bluetooth speakers designed for home use, but what it lacks in sound quality it makes up for in portability and toughness. It also has nice features like a speakerphone function and a USB charging port. Its two biggest flaws are mediocre battery life and occasional problems with Bluetooth streaming.

    Performance

Satisfying sound. Most reviewers are satisfied with but not wowed by the A33's sound quality. The Wirecutter describes it as one of the few ruggedly built speakers that offers decent bass performance, thanks to a 2.5-inch mini "subwoofer" in the back. Other reviewers agree that there's plenty of bass but think that it can be a bit "boomy" and poorly defined. CNET says that while the A33 offers decent clarity and good volume for its size, it lacks the dynamic range to "handle more nuanced/complicated tracks gracefully." Professional reviewers are also unimpressed with the speaker's six-hour battery life, but most users have no complaints about it.

    Ease of use

Not the smoothest streaming. The A33 includes a few nice features. It has a speakerphone function (though some user reviews say the voice quality isn't great) and a USB port for charging phones or tablets -- though the speaker itself must be charged with an AC adapter. Reviewers also find the controls intuitive and easy to use. However, we read mixed reviews about the Bluetooth performance. While all professional reviews, and many user reviews, say Bluetooth pairing is easy, we also saw many complaints from users that the signal abruptly cuts out and the music stops playing.

    Design

Sturdy and splashproof. The main advantage of the A33 is its rugged, water-resistant design. CNET notes that it's only "splashproof," not truly waterproof, but it includes other protective features as well, like a removable rubber door that protects its ports from dust and moisture. There are also rubberized feet on the bottom to keep it from shifting around when played at high volume. At 3 pounds, the A33 is heavier than some waterproof speakers, but it's certainly compact enough to carry to the beach and tough enough to withstand sand and water. Best home gym

Pros
  • Excellent value
  • Sturdy construction
  • Lifetime warranty
  • Smooth operation
Cons
  • Limited resistance
  • Somewhat lengthy assembly

    Bottom line

The Body-Solid EXM-1500S draws praise for its solid build and the company's excellent customer service. Users say it's easy to assemble with some prep work, and the pulleys offer smooth, solid operation. Unfortunately, the 160-pound weight stack isn't enough to challenge experienced exercisers.

    Setup

A mid-range assembly time. We found a few complaints that the Body-Solid EXM-1500S can be a real headache to set up, but many more reviewers say it's nothing excessive as long as you take the time to sort all the parts out before you get started. The good news is the assembly instructions are great; the high-quality parts fit together easily, and they even arrive well packaged. Still, judging from user comments, you should plan on four to six hours of assembly time.
One Amazon.com user suggests using two 17-mm ratchets and some larger crescent wrenches for the easiest assembly.

    Performance

Beginner appeal. The Body-Solid EXM-1500S's pulley system is extremely smooth, quiet and easy to use. "No jerking whatsoever," writes one Amazon user. "Using the machine is a dream, it's smooth and silent," confirms another.
The 160-pound weight stack is adequate for beginners, but advanced users will find themselves wishing for more resistance. Also, a few comments from customers hint that taller people might feel cramped. "This machine is NOT for a person who is above average size. When you sit in the seat to do pulldowns there is not a whole lot of room," explains an Amazon reviewer.

    Ownership

Two thumbs up. We found nothing but positive feedback about Body-Solid's customer service -- a refreshing change from the complaints that many other manufacturers receive. "Can't praise them too highly," writes one reviewer at Amazon.com. "It's very easy to get replacement parts if they break or wear out," says another.
Paul Rogers, About.com's guide to weight training, praises the EXM-1500S as a "great, solid mid-range home gym." It also draws praise from TrainerSecrets.com for its build quality, and the lifetime warranty speaks volumes about the manufacturer's confidence in its product. Action Cameras Reviewed!

GoPro HD Hero3+ Black Edition

GoPro HD Hero3+ Black Edition

Best action camera

Pros
  • Superior video quality
  • Lots of shooting options
  • Wide variety of mounts
  • Sturdy build
Cons
  • So-so battery life
  • May produce blurry distance shots

    Bottom line

Reviewers consistently agree that the GoPro HD Hero3+ Black Edition simply offers the best video performance it's possible to get from an action camera. It's versatile, too, with lots of shooting and mounting options, and its sturdy construction stands up to all sorts of abuse. However, many reviewers add that not every user really needs the best quality money can buy. For casual use, a lower-priced camera will probably offer better value.

    Ease of use

Fully loaded tool kit. One thing reviewers love about the Hero3+ is its wide array of mounting options for everything from surfboards to roll bars. Only two mounts actually come with the camera, however; others are sold as extras. Like most action cams, the Hero3+ doesn't include a viewscreen, but the free GoPro app lets you use your smartphone as a viewfinder. There's also a wireless remote, which has the same menus and buttons found on the camera itself, but CNET says it's a hassle to use for all but the most basic functions; the smartphone app is much more user-friendly.

    Performance

Top-notch video quality. What really sets the Hero3+ Black Edition apart from the competition is its video quality. In a head-to-head test of action cameras at MTBR.com, footage from the Hero3+ Black "is sharper, has great color, and holds subtle detail in the highlights and shadows." Audio quality and still images are also good, though not outstanding. Some users complain that distance shots on the Hero3+ look extremely fuzzy, but this appears to be due to a bug that affects only certain cameras (which GoPro will replace). The Hero3+ Black also offers a huge range of options for resolution, frame rate and field of vision. Its only weak point is its so-so battery life (around 2 hours).

    Design

Small but sturdy. In user reviews, one feature users really like about the Hero3+ is its compact, lightweight form. The plastic housing is also smaller and lighter than that of past versions, yet Paul Davies of The Telegraph describes it as "nigh on indestructible." The same applies to the mounts; TheWirecutter.com's Brent Rose says they're "notoriously tough," standing up to giant waves and even surviving car crashes. The Hero3+ is waterproof up to 131 feet deep. Compared to other action cameras, the Hero3+ is surprisingly boxy in shape, but users don't appear to find that a drawback. It can even be a plus, since it lets the camera stand on its own without a tripod. Also for Direct Access to Brand Name Products&Services like this one Visit our Website at   http://ebuys-onlineproducts-services.weebly.com
