It works, but with limitations

Pros
  • Inexpensive
  • Easy to install
Cons
  • Poor customer service, technical support
  • Call quality depends on Internet service
  • Conflicts with other hardware, software
  • Computer must be on to receive or place phone calls
The Pitch: "Never pay a monthly phone bill again!"
In concept, the YMax magicJack is a great product, reviewers say. It is inexpensive, easy to install and simple to use. The value is hard to beat -- just a $40 hardware cost and a $20 yearly fee for unlimited local and long-distance calling. Early reports from respected reviewers such as PCMag.com and Laptop Magazine were largely glowing -- in fact, PCMag.com gave the YMax magicJack it's Editors' Choice award when it first reviewed the product in early 2008.
Fast forward to today, however, and things look different. Part of that is technical. Many VoIP (voice over Internet protocol) services, such as Vonage (starting at *est. $18 per month, plus *est. $10 for equipment), connect directly to the Internet through your router. MagicJack, on the other hand, connects to your PC via a USB port and relies on that computer for making and receiving phone calls. That means that your computer must be turned on in order to make and receive calls with the magicJack. With other VoIP services, you can make and receive calls whether or not your computer is running.
That's fine in theory, and the YMax magicJack works perfectly well on a nice, clean computer -- which is how lots of professional reviewers test and why initial reports were so positive. However, most real-world computers are loaded with all sorts of software and hardware, and few are configured perfectly. That can lead to a host of problems that can befuddle even technically adept owners, let alone typical consumers.
Fueled by its positive initial reviews and hyper-aggressive marketing campaign in as-seen-on-TV infomercials, many people have been persuaded to buy YMax magicJack. That's led to a dramatic increase in the need for competent technical support to help the non-tech-savvy get their magicJacks up and running. However, reports widely say that YMax has been unwilling or unable to adequately meet that demand. That's narrowed the base of happy users mainly to those comfortable with configuring their computer's operating system, software and security settings on their own or with minimal help. It's also left many others unhappy.
Other issues have also led to plenty of discontent. Like any VoIP device, call quality depends heavily on the strength of your Internet connection, and downloading a file or streaming media online while calling can muck things up even more. Additionally, your computer must always be on for magicJack to place or receive calls. Not all area codes are available; if yours is not, it could make your number a long-distance one for all inbound calls, including local ones. SpotCoolStuff.com notes that once YMax magicJack's software is installed on your computer, there's no easy way to uninstall it, a comment we've also seen echoed elsewhere. We've also seen numerous complaints about the company's billing practices.

BitDefender Total Security 2015 Review

Best Internet security software suite

Pros
  • Outstanding malware protection
  • Stuffed with features, including device anti-theft
  • Easy to use
  • Doesn't bog down computers in tests
Cons
  • Complaints about auto-renewal
  • Can cause conflicts with security products from other vendors

    Bottom line

In test after test, Bitdefender Total Security 2015 finishes at the forefront with near-bulletproof protection against all types of malware and good overall usability. Bitdefender's top-of-the-line software comes fully loaded with just about every security option you can imagine. One caveat is that things can get a little ugly if you have other security software already installed, so completely remove those first before adding BitDefender to your PC.

    Breaking it down

    Ease of use

Easy set-up, simple interface. Bitdefender Total Security's features are easy to use, testers say, though Tom's Guide complains that some may be a little hard to figure out at first. The user interface has been streamlined for 2015, which has earned kudos. "Rather than having a lot of tiles slide awkwardly through the Bitdefender window, as in the 2014 version, here there are three large tiles and four subsidiary ones, giving quick and easy access to all the program's key functions," says PC Advisor's Simon Williams. Once it's installed, Bitdefender Total Security will immediately run a scan. From then on, it can scan on Autopilot by default. In this mode, Bitdefender handles threats intelligently and silently.
Reviewers generally like usability, but share a couple of gripes. Jill Scharr fromTom's Guide complains that she "would like to see more documentation inside the program about exactly what the many features do and how to customize them." Some users complain that auto-renew is set by default, and turning that off is something that is regularly missed. We saw conflicting reports from users regarding whether or not they could obtain a refund if they unintentionally renewed their license.

    Features

Rare extras like anti-theft. Bitdefender Total Security contains almost every feature Bitdefender has to offer. You'll find some of them on Bitdefender's less expensive products -- like Safepay for secure online transactions, privacy protection while you're web surfing or on Facebook, and robust parental controls. You'll be able to control your kids' Windows and Android accounts, monitor phone calls, texts and Facebook messages, and more.
Bitdefender offers other features only on Total Security -- and experts say they're really useful. In-cloud data storage (you get 2 GB free) syncs data among your devices. Encrypted vaults store your data securely, and a file shredder deletes data completely. Device anti-theft, rare for a PC suite, lets you locate, remotely lock down or even completely wipe your laptop. PC tune up features goes beyond the usual defrag-and-cleanup, with sophisticated duplicate-file and registry cleanup tools. One-Click Optimizer is the tool that many will rely on. "It will recover disk space by deleting junk files, wipe out useless and erroneous Registry data, and clear away traces of your PC and browser usage" says PCMag.com. Those who want to dig deeper will find more advanced PC Clean-Up and Registry Cleaner tools. Automatic security profile switching minimizes spurious security interruptions and alerts during certain activities, such as game playing and movie watching, but PC World's testers found that it didn't always work.

    Performance

Award-winning security that won't bog down your computer. Blocking malware, malicious websites, phishing sites -- Bitdefender does an award-winning job in test after test. It won't slow your computer down, either, experts say. It earns top grades in independent tests by AV-Test. org, AV-Comparatives.org and others. It's an Editors' Choice at PCMag.com and Tom's Guide. User reviews are split down the middle at most sites, however. Some love BitDefender, others hate it, complaining of various issues with performance or installation -- something that's true of virtually all security software. Also, like almost all security software, BitDefender won't coexist peacefully with security programs from other vendors. Make sure you completely uninstall any of those before installing BitDefender to minimize headaches. Also for Direct Access to Great Products&Services like this Visit our Website at http://ebuys-onlineproducts-services.weebly.com

Apple iPad Air 2 Review

Best tablet

Pros
  • Vast tablet-optimized app selection
  • Powerful performance
  • Intuitive interface
  • Good battery life
  • Incredibly thin and light
Cons
  • Little user customization

    Bottom line

Reviewers say that the iPad Air 2  is the best iPad ever, and the best tablet available, bar none. The battery lasts forever, performance is among the best of any tablet, and the huge number of tablet-optimized apps can't be beat.

    Breaking it down

    Performance

Silky smooth and super to look at. Thanks to a powerful A8X processor, the iPad Air 2 promises the fastest performance of any tablet ever, and reviews say that it largely delivers. That's something that serious gamers and others who need that level of performance will notice more than typical users who watch movies, read email, play casual games, and the like. Despite the extra performance boost, battery life is as long as ever, though perhaps a touch less than Apple's 10 hour claim. Some Android tablets now serve up displays that are as eye-popping as Apple's Retina Display, with even higher resolution, but that doesn't make it any less beautiful, and a new anti-reflective screen treatment makes for better viewing outdoors or under bright lights.

    Features

Apps, apps and more apps. The killer feature with the Apple iPad Air 2 remains iTunes unmatched library of tablet-optimized apps -- 675,000 designed specifically for the iPad, Apple claims. New this year is Touch ID fingerprint recognition for security and one-touch purchasing, including from third-party merchants whose apps support Apple Pay. The base version iPad Air 2 is Wi-Fi only, but you can opt for a version with LTE connectivity for $130 more. LTE-enabled iPad Air 2s now have a programmable SIM card to allow for switching between carriers if needed. For those immersed in the Apple lifestyle, you can pass calls from your iPhone to your iPad, and sync what your are doing on the iPad with the iPhone and Apple laptops and desktops running OS X Yosemite -- staring work or play on one device and seamlessly picking it up on another. The base version ships with 16 GB of storage. If you need more than that, upgrades to 64 GB (Est. $600) and 128 GB (Est. $700) are available.

    Ease of use

Doesn't get better. The powerful internals provide a super-speedy usage experience, even when playing the most demanding 3D gaming apps, while the iOS operating system is slick and simple to use. However, the trade-off for the ease of use is limited customization options, especially when compared to Android tablets. Apple's warranty isn't especially generous, particularly when it comes to telephone support, but the in-store Genius Bars are highly praised. Build quality is near bulletproof, and the gold standard by which other tablets are judged.
